# Create an Account

> Learn how to create your Polymarket US account, verify your identity, and complete Know Your Customer (KYC) securely

## Sign-Up and Verification Process

**1. Create account**

Sign up with **Google** or **Apple ID** to create your Polymarket US account.

**2. Your username**

We create a **username** for you when you sign up. It's visible on your profile, and you can change it in **Settings** under **Edit profile**.

**3. Enter personal details**

Provide your **date of birth**, **phone number** (we text you a code to confirm it), **legal name**, **residential address**, and **Social Security number** for verification.

**4. Verify identity (KYC)**

Most users are verified automatically. If additional verification is needed, you may be asked to upload a **government-issued ID** and complete a **selfie check.**

**5. Start trading**

Once verified, you can **deposit funds** and start trading.

> Most verifications are completed instantly. If manual review is required, processing can take longer. You'll see the result in the app, and if notifications are on, we'll send you a push notification when you're approved.

## If We Couldn't Verify Your Identity

**Try again with your details exactly as they appear on your government-issued ID.**

You'll need to enter them again. Check that:

* your legal name matches your ID (no nicknames or shortened names)
* your date of birth and Social Security number are correct
* your home address is your current residential address

### If We Ask for a Photo of Your ID

* Use a **driver's license, state ID card or passport**. It must be **unexpired**. Military IDs can't be used.
* Use the **physical ID**: not a photocopy, a screenshot, or a photo of a screen.
* Place it on a dark, flat surface, in good light with no glare. Keep all four corners in the frame, and don't cover any part of it with your fingers.
* For the selfie, keep your whole face visible: no hat, sunglasses or mask.
* Finish the ID check once you start it. If you leave it unfinished, you'll need to start verification again.

**You can try a limited number of times.** If you can't try again, or keep running into problems, [contact support](https://docs.polymarket.us/learn/faq/contact-support.md) through the in-app chat in **Settings** or at [support@polymarket.us](mailto:support@polymarket.us). Never send your Social Security number or a photo of your ID by email.

## Why KYC Is Required

KYC verification is required to comply with federal identity and anti-money-laundering (AML) rules. These checks confirm user identity and help maintain a secure and compliant trading environment. You must complete KYC before you can deposit funds or trade.

Polymarket US is a **Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)-regulated exchange**. All onboarding and identity verification processes follow applicable U.S. federal compliance standards, including identity verification and AML requirements.
